A quick interior ideation rendering is difficult because there’s just so many elements to an interior, you got the dashboard, middle console, doors, seats and steering wheel and not to mention all the details within each part. So in this tutorial I discuss a little about how to go about dividing up the interior into different sections so that it doesn’t become so overwhelming to do a quick ideation sketch rendering and then I give you guys a demonstration on how I isolate one part of the interior, in this case a dashboard to show you how to do a quick 20 min ideation sketch rendering. As part of the Interior Design Series, I'm going over how to render a basic steering wheel in photoshop. The steering wheel is a great design object that most students skip over in their interior projects. They mostly focus on the dashboard and even seats before spending time on the steering wheel. There are so many elements that are compacted in the steering wheel. You have to think about the ergonomics of the grip + think about the interaction buttons + make sure the design language is the same with the rest of the interior. So its actually a difficult piece to design because its also a small object compared to the rest of the interior. But seeing that it is the object that you have the MOST interaction with in a car, its not a bad idea to spend a page or two on a nice steering wheel design. Which leads me to this tutorial on how to render a steering wheel in a direct front view, you can use this technique to design different views and deliver a compelling steering wheel design! Thanks!

Having trouble creating an unique/ memorable interior design? Maybe you're missing out on the two most important aspects when it comes to a new/ fresh interior design. TWO Must have elements: 1. Creating a new and meaningful interior architecture. 2. Introducing a new technology and/or feature which affects the geometry. I have seen many student interior projects and I can break it down to these two elements which divides the memorable projects vs. the boring projects. Many students are familiar with these two key points but have a hard time actually applying them to their work. This video is for students who are pursuing car interior design. I get a lot questions from students who are starting out and curious about interior design and how to move forward. So through the many years of tutoring interior design students, I have compiled the 5 most common mistakes that the students make so you can learn to avoid them. I also take a couple of student interior sketches and do an overlay to show you how to optimize your interior themes and also keeping your original key sketch theme while incorporating basic interior functionality.
